Can Imagery Improve Performance?

Can Imagery Improve Performance?

How do you define the difference, in one word, between someone who takes action and succeeds and someone who procrastinates? You could use scared, fearful, unsure or uncommitted. The word I would choose is……

Certainty

When we have certainty that we can achieve something and that we will get the results we desire then nothing will stop us taking action. With certainty, we develop drive, hunger and motivation and we will push ourselves even when the going gets tough.

However, if we are uncertain, if we lack certainty the effort will be minimal to non-existent – we probably won’t even get off the starting blocks. Without a sense of being certain of success, we have already set ourselves up to fail.

How does imagery play a role in certainty?

Of course, the above is going to the extreme as most of the world finds itself in the ‘red zone’ or the ‘danger zone’ of maybe. Maybe it will work but maybe it won’t, maybe I’ll succeed or maybe I’ll fail – this leads to the world of half-heartedness. When we live in the world of maybe we start but never finish, we try without ever putting our entire heart and soul into it.

“The key is to create absolute certainty – to fill yourself with the belief that you will accomplish what you set out to, no matter what is happening in the external world.” – Tony Robbins.

As Tony Robbins rightly notes, the key is to fill yourself with an absolute certainty of belief in what you are doing. The great boxer Muhammed Ali had massive certainty about every fight that he went into, why? Because he pictured every fight, round by round and gave himself the certainty and belief that he would win.

The current MMA fighter, Conor Mcgregor was recently quoted in an interview as saying “when I say something is going to happen, it’s going to happen” and when pushed on how he knew this he replied “because I’ve pictured it in my head long before it’s happened”

Did both these men have certainty? Indeed they did and that certainty came from the imagery created within themselves first. How does this help you? Imagine having in your head the picture of you succeeding at whatever you want, having that detailed certainty of what success looks like, sounds like and feels like. Is there any chance of you not taking massive action and getting to where you want to be? No!!

We all have limiting beliefs

Every human being on this planet has limiting beliefs, a sense of doubt that can hold us back and stop us in our tracks. It is those people that picture and imagine success so vividly, that create the highest level of certainty who break through limiting beliefs and doubt and take the actions anyway.

Create your own vision of success, see everything around you with great clarity and colour, hear every sound and voice as if you were there right now. Let the feelings of success course through your body, mind and nervous system and really understand what it feels like to have what you want.

Imagery is not just about the mind, to have certainty it must be a whole body experience that creates drive and enthusiasm that simply will not be beaten. Practice this imagery time after time and the time after time again, train your mind, body and nervous system to have certainty in success. If you do this will you have absolute certainty in what you are going to achieve?

Yes, you will!

“The use of mental imagery is one of the strongest and most effective strategies for making something happen to you” – Dr Wayne Dyer.

A good coach will not only help you to discover your passions, detail the goals you want to achieve and uncover how you want to live your life – a good coach will also help you to visualise and use the imagery to create a state of certainty within you so that you know you’ll succeed. By finding and employing the services of a Strategic Life Coach you fast forward your route to success.

When truth kills truth

Truth……

Have you held something to be true for many years only to have that truth shattered in a heartbeat? Have you ever heard anyone speak about their beliefs and considered that you believe something different? How many times does truth kill truth?

In our constantly evolving world the truths that we hold close often get challenged and replaced by other facts as time goes on and discoveries come along. For many years people believed the world was flat and that if you sailed far enough, you would fall off the end. In athletics, it was long held as a truth that running a mile in under four minutes was impossible and yet Roger Bannister proved that truth incorrect.

Even science is currently evolving, isn’t it? Breakthroughs are occurring all the time and what was once the truth is replaced by yet another truth. Take the work of Dr Candace Pert in the 1970’s as an example; she was the first person to unequivocally prove the link between mind and body in us human beings. Until that point, the medical profession had believed that there was no link and each part was separate to the other.

“The truth is rarely pure and never simple” – Oscar Wilde.

The only way that humanity can keep evolving, learning and growing is to keep challenging the beliefs we hold and let new truths kill off the old. Whether this is in science, medical circles, business & finance or within ourselves as human beings, it is critical that we continue to challenge.

Within ourselves, we set up beliefs, truths that either work for us or against us and yet these we can only set up from our references and perspectives. We believe that which we have experienced and integrate that into our lives, for the most part, without conscious thought. It is only with conscious thinking that we can honestly see something as true or untrue; it is when we increase our experiences and therefore our references that we make more informed decisions.

Looking at truth and beliefs from other angles gives us different perspectives and can reshape our thoughts. Undoubtedly, as conscious beings, we should always seek to understand truth from every perspective possible and only then can we create the conscious beliefs of what is true.

What truth can you challenge within yourself today? What beliefs, that currently hold you back, can you gain different perspectives on and change so that you can move forward?

“Morality is the basis of things and truth is the substance of morality” – Mahatma Gandhi.

What stops you in your tracks?

What stops you having what you want? What prevents you achieving anything and everything you want to in life? What stops you in your tracks?

If you answered those questions with a list of things you don’t have – time, money, knowledge or knowing the right people; it’s time to disappoint you! All of these resources are available if you want them – let me ask you another question. If someone you love was in a life or death situation that required one of those resources what would you do? That’s right – anything!!

So if it’s not resources or lack of resources that halts you in your desire to have your life on your terms, what is it? The answer comes down to one word – Fear.

“What you are afraid to do is a clear indication of the next thing you need to do” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The two core fears that hold you back are:

1) a fear of failure.
2) a fear of success (this is the least recognised and yet extremely prevalent)

However, just discussing the fear of failure or success is not getting to the core of what is holding you back. In fact, leaving the discussion at that point is like preparing the food for a meal and then not cooking it!

The fear of failure and fear of success are both derived from the two core fears that we all have, and it is dealing with those core fears that will allow you to succeed and have a life on your terms.

The two core fears that we all hold are the fear of not being good enough (failure) and the fear of not being worthy (success). Fearing one of those holds you back, fearing both is debilitating and until you break those fear down and breakthrough to the other side your dreams will remain just that, a dream.

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear” – George Addair.

Identifying the fear and removing the stories we tell ourselves about why we haven’t succeeded (lack of money, time etc.) is the first step. Taking conscious responsibility for where we are in our life means that we can make the decision to move past those fears, keep working through them and breakthrough to the other side where the life we want, life on your terms, awaits.

Getting support and help with that step of breaking through moves up the timescale. Finding a Coach who knows how to help you identify your limiting beliefs and then break them down, replacing them with positive, empowering beliefs accelerates the process.

“Never trust your fears, they don’t know your strength” – Athena Singh.

Get in touch with me today at graham@priority-consulting.co.uk so that we can get started on breaking down your fears and creating the life you want.

Can Uncertainty be Eliminated?

I’m certain you know what uncertainty feels like to you!

I’m certain you know what uncertainty feels like to you! That experience of not know what is going to happen in the next minute, hour, day, week, month or even year. How do you describe it? Shakey, nervous, excited, unsure, stressed or anxious maybe, no matter how we define it we know what uncertainty feels like – but can uncertainty be eliminated?

The simple answer is no; uncertainty cannot be eliminated although we can take steps to lessen the levels of uncertainty we experience. The reason we cannot remove this from our lives is that we need it, yes that’s right we need it! Our nervous system needs some variety to function correctly, to expand and to grow so that we grow as human beings.

If we were to feel confident and sure of everything all of the time life would get pretty boring wouldn’t it? You like surprises don’t you? Of course, you like surprises – well the excellent type of surprise anyway! What if you knew about everything that was going to happen? No more birthday shocks or unplanned flowers from your husband. Would Christmas be ruined is we added in certainty and took away the surprise element of opening gifts?

But, of course, we are not talking about that type of uncertainty here, are we?

“When nothing is sure, everything is possible” – Margaret Drabble.

There are fundamental ways in which you can reduce the amount of unpleasant uncertainty you experience in your life. Firstly you can take more time to plan your future, making plans and setting goals brings with it some sureness of where you are heading in life and how you are going to get there. Creating a clear vision for what it is you want to achieve gives you some confidence in the future, but it can also bring with it the “what if it doesn’t happen?” uncertainty question.

This is where the next stage is critical; you must take the actions required to get you to where you want to be! Taking action is the point where most people slip up and fall foul of the uncertainty of life. While taking action should be the fun part about getting to our future we can very quickly allow doubts creep in and take over, crippling us of our power.

So how about we look at this a different way? What does the future look like when we replace uncertainty with opportunity and thus set our lives free?

“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity” – Albert Einstein.

Consider for a moment an area of your life in which you have uncertainty. Instead of focussing on the uncertainty of the situation ask yourself “how can I improve this situation, what do I want it to be and how will I get it there?” – When we focus on the problem at hand that is all we see, the problem. By shifting focus to what we can to resolve the issue, we open ourselves up to the possibility of improving it. Let me give you an example:

It is said that the quality of our relationships defines the quality of our lives and yet many people have a great deal of uncertainty in their closest relationships. You can imagine the level of frustration being uncertain about the relationship you have with your spouse/partner or your children can’t you? Instead of focussing on that level of upset what would happen if you focus on the opportunity that might present itself.

– The opportunity to improve your relationship and make your life better.
– The opportunity to have a massive impact on the people you care about by educating yourself in each situation.
– The opportunity to create a life of happiness and joy for the ones you love most.
– The opportunity to grow as an individual and become the person you were meant to be.
– The opportunity to have the loving, caring and harmonious relationship you desire.

What does the future look like when we replace uncertainty with opportunity and set our lives free? For each of the sentences above place the following at the beginning – “How can I have ……….” and then finish the sentence to ask the question.

Discover how to find the opportunity in any area of your life that you currently feel uncertain. Email me at graham@priority-consulting.co.uk and we can talk about getting you on the right path.

Breakthrough – The Ultimate Journey

Breakthrough – The Ultimate Journey

In just under two hours the someone’s life was changed; her limiting beliefs were broken down and replaced with empowering ones, she discovered her role and purpose in this world, and she was challenged to start making it happen.

Uncovering your authenticity and purpose in the world while removing limiting beliefs and rules – surely this is the ultimate journey! (all in under two hours!)

“Who you decide to be today will determine your tomorrow” Jeffrey Benjamin.

The truth is that breakthroughs happen when you are open to discovering who you are at your core and then challenging the stories that you have told yourself over time. Breakthroughs occur when we follow the three ‘S’ rule of Strategy, Story and State – I recently wrote an article on this, and you can find it by clicking the link below:

Creating Positive Change In Your Life

The most significant journey you will go on in your life will be the one that leads you to discover you – the real you, the authentic you. As human beings, we are created to follow our path, to be who we were meant to be and yet so many of us don’t know that simple fact – who were you meant to be?

Not following our inner core, our authenticity leads to more angst and anguish than most other things in life. When we know, we are drawn to something different, when our heart tells us that there is a better path and yet we ignore it or try to push it away discontent sets into our lives.

It is, most commonly, that we lead our lives for someone else and that we attempt to be who they want us to be that we pull away from who we are designed to be. However, there is one truth that is undeniable – this is our life and not that of somebody else! The highest level of fulfilment in life comes from living our life on our terms and the most significant breakthrough in life is discovering that very fact and acting upon it.

Who are you willing to become? You or some other version of you that someone else decides on and therefore controls?

“We are constantly invited to be who we are” Henry David Thoreau.

Stop trading your authenticity for approval; it’s time you became you! Discovering your authentic self is the ultimate journey, taking action and moving towards that genuine person becomes a joyful experience.

Breakthrough to You – The Ultimate Journey!

Now that you are ready to breakthrough to the real you, to your authentic self please get in touch and we can discuss and book your breakthrough session – email me at

graham@priority-consulting.co.uk

If, however, you are ready to help others discover their authentic inner core self then my course – “Strategic Life Coach Certification – Inner Core / Highest Intent” – will give you the tools and strategies to do just that! Click on the picture below to find out more and sign up today.

Imposter Coach Syndrome – Do you suffer from it?

“I don’t feel like a coach; I feel like an imposter”

“I don’t feel like a coach; I feel like an imposter” is something I hear all the time from new coaches and it is an entirely reasonable feeling. Let me say that part again; it is an entirely reasonable and normal feeling to have!

Learning and understanding tools and strategies that can change people’s lives for the better holds with it an awesome responsibility and with that responsibility comes fear. Yes, fear shows up when we know that we have the capability to do something and then start questioning if we are good enough to do it.

– What if I go wrong and make a mistake?
– What if I can’t help them?
– What if I make them worse?
– I’m not perfect so how can I help others?
– I don’t know enough; I need to take another course, don’t I?

The above are all common thoughts, feelings and questions asked by new coaches and practitioners as they endeavour to determine whether they can make it as a coach.

“The first and most important person you must believe in is yourself” – Toni Sorenson.

Discovering belief in yourself as a coach comes in two parts and each is as important as the next;

Part One: Go through all of the tools and strategies for yourself.
The only way for a Life Coach to truly understand what their clients are going through during the coaching process is to go through all of the tools and strategies for themselves. Knowing what a Values Elicitation feels like, understanding the emotions in discovering and breaking down Limiting Beliefs, Uncovering the unconscious Rules that you have set up for your life are all emotion stretching experiences that you need to go through for yourself. If you struggle to put yourself through these experiences, get yourself a coach or a mentor that will help you through – in fact finding a mentor is one of the best things you can do!

Part Two: Practice more than you ever thought you would need to.
The only way to get better at something and gain competence and therefore confidence is to practice. Yes, you’ll make mistakes because that’s what acquiring a new skill involves; as long as you evaluate and learn from those mistakes you will make yourself a better coach. The more you practice, the more natural you become, and the more natural you become, the better coach you will be.

“If you want to expand your life, expand your references” – Anthony Robbins.

The experiences of our lives create the references of which shape how we feel about future encounters. Using the two points above will give you positive references and therefore generate the belief and knowing that you are a great coach – not an imposter!

There is one more suggestion………..

Before we carry on to my other suggestion I just wanted to take a moment and share my two “Strategic Life Coach Certification” Courses. Both are designed to help you improve your knowledge and coaching skills. To find out more information, click on the pictures below:

Strategic Life Coaching Certification Strategic Life Coach Certification

My final suggestion for overcoming Imposter Coach Syndrome is to get yourself a Coach & Mentor, someone who will help to keep you online, drive you to succeed and help you through those negative feeling and limiting beliefs.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Graham

Can confidence be taught?

Confidence………

Confidence is sometimes viewed as a mythical entity, a magical force that only some people seem to have – but is this true or can confidence be taught?

For those who are confident, there seems to be a natural state that they can go it to whenever they wish in any situation. Whereas for the unconfident life can be a tortuous place where fear and anxiety take over and stop them having what they want or being who they want to be.

Confidence brings an ability to connect with other people easily, to build rapport and trust. Being confident gives a sense of certainty that we can achieve what we set out to achieve and be who we want to be – that we can be authentic to ourselves and live life on our terms.

“If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life” – Marcus Garvey.

Can confidence be taught? The more appropriate question to be asked is – can confidence be learned? The simple answer to the question is – Yes, absolutely confidence can indeed be both taught and learned. While not often recognised as such, confidence is an emotion that we feel just like happiness, sadness, joy or gratitude.

How can emotions be taught or learned? I hear you cry; the answer is more simple than it first seems. The majority of people in this world believe that emotions happen to them and not that emotions are controlled by them and should be happening for them.

Emotions, at their core level, are a series of patterns that we, as human beings, run throughout our body, mind and nervous system. Those models of emotion are discovered through study and examination and, once identified, can be controlled and influenced – and confidence is no different.

“When you control your thoughts and emotions, you control everything” – Marshall Sylver.

The real question therefore is – can you be taught how to be confident? Can you learn confidence? The answer is as straightforward as it was before – Yes, you can – and I would love to be the person to teach you!

Confidence

My brand new course has just gone live and within the program, I will show you how to increase your levels of confidence in any area of your life. I’ll show you where to find your self-confidence and how to ‘switch it on’ whenever you need it – and the more you use it the more it will naturally be with you!

Click on the picture above to find out more information and sign-up when you are interested (and I’ve added a coupon to the link so that you get it at a specially reduced price!)

Self-confidence isn’t a mythical state that only some people have, it is something you can be taught and something you can learn – have more confidence when you need it!

Unwavering Self-Confidence – Creating 100% Confidence in You

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I’m truly grateful – and I hope to see you in one of my courses soon.

Creating Positive Change In Your Life

Have you ever considered why people don’t change? Have you ever wanted something new, something better in your life that required a change and yet you just couldn’t make it happen? Have you ever considered why?

Change comes first from making a decision, a real resolution to change and only when that commitment is entirely in place can the process get started. The start of committing to change is gaining leverage over yourself so that you have no other choice, so that every morning when you wake you are looking for the way forward.

What is it that you want to change?
What are your real reasons for wanting/needing the change?

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old but on building the new” – Socrates.

There are three critical steps to making a change and creating a breakthrough in your life; let’s take a look at each of them in turn:

Step One – Use the right Strategy

If you do not have a strategy, a plan for how you are going to make the change you are never going to find the right route to achieving your goal. Iy’s like setting out on a car journey that you have never been on before without a map or sat nav, there’s a good chance you are going to get lost along the way.

Trying to get fit with a strategy of sitting on the couch all day is never going to work. However, doing the research and deciding on a plan of eating and healthy exercise that will work for you and then evaluate and adjust will increase your success rate exponentially.

Trying to learn a new skill with the strategy of watching a few YouTube videos is unlikely to work. Finding an appropriate course, signing up and taking part and then practising your new skill until it becomes natural to you is a far more efficient and successful way to achieve.

What is the right strategy for a change you want to make?

Step Two – Get rid of the Stories.

It is a part of who we are as human beings to cover our failings with stories as to why we didn’t achieve – we didn’t have enough time, we didn’t have enough money, we couldn’t find the right support or the correct information. These stories hold us back as we buy into them and believe them to the point that we will tell others our story so that they think it as well.

When you break down the stories and get to the truth, you can then take conscious responsibility for that reality and what you are going to do with it. Only when you accept complete conscious responsibility for where you are currently at can you understand the need for change and agree that it is you who must change.

What stories do you tell yourself?

“Responsibility, surely, is nothing more than the ability to respond” – George Zaluki

Step Three – Manage your state.

The physical and mental state in which we do anything is key to our success or failure, if we are in a state of negativity or defeat we will undoubtedly fail. Placing yourself in a positive, productive and empowering state at all times you are working towards your goal of change will increase your chance immeasurably.

Your state is created in three areas; your physical association to what you are doing – what you do with your body produces a relevant emotion and feeling. Approach the task with an energetic and convincing manner, and you will have the impetus to carry on and succeed. Approach it with a tired, down, and low physical state and you will soon give up.

The second area of a state is that which you pay attention to, as the famous quote goes – “where focus goes, energy flows”. Paying attention to what is great in life and all the successes you have previously had produces a significantly increased opportunity for success than focussing on past failures.

Thirdly, your state will be determined by the language you use both internally and externally. Through the questions, we ask ourselves we create meanings, and through the repetition of those meanings, we create beliefs. Asking positive and empowering questions produces dramatically different results to disempowering and negative questions.

“Commitment is doing the thing you said you would do, long after the mood you said it in has left you” – George Zaluki

So to recap; creating positive change in your life depends on the strategy you choose, ridding yourself of the stories and controlling the state you approach the change in.

What change will you make in your life?

When you are ready to make a change in your life discover the secrets through my two Strategic Life Coaching Certification courses. These courses offer you the opportunity to learn and use powerful strategies for change in your life and the lives of others.

New Year =>> Real You

Do you live your life for you, on your terms and according to who you are inside? Or do you live your life according to the wishes and desires of someone else?

Many people, in their lives, find that they are not living their life, they are living a life for someone else – their parents, their family, their friends, the spouse or even their children. Living in this manner causes a conflict inside as we fight against our own identity, an identity that we were born with but which we now ignore.

“The strongest force in the human personality is to remain constant with your own identity” – Tony Robbins.

The desire to live according to our own identity is like a gravitational pull; it continually drags us towards our centre, our core and when we fight against that gravitational force we use a tremendous amount of energy. This use of energy drains our emotional wellbeing along with our spirit and soul and, very often, we find ourselves feeling depleted, down, sad or even depressed – and yet we have no idea why!

Discovering your true core identity frees your life energy and allows you to live your life on your terms and only in this place can we genuinely serve those for who we care. Attempting to serve our family and friends by being whom they want us to can only detract from our personality and therefore remove our effectiveness as human beings.

“Our true identity is found when we stop being ‘who we are’ and start becoming who we were created to be” – Anon.

So I ask this question of you today – who were you created to be?

Were you created to live a life according to someone else, or were you created to live your life in the way you choose to live it? Consider the following sentence and finish it as many times as you can while being entirely honest with yourself;

I believe that I was created to be…………………………………………..
I believe that I was created to be…………………………………………..
I believe that I was created to be…………………………………………..

Many people never consciously discover who they are created to be at their core and therefore do not live life to their full potential. If you want to discover your true core or learn how to help others do the same you can now take advantage of my online video-based training course for the reduced price of just £10!

It’s a Gratitude time of year

It’s a gratitude time of year – As we approach the end of each year it is the ideal time to discover what you can be grateful for in the past year so that the New Year can be approached in the right manner – without fear!

When we focus on gratitude we remove fear, anxiety and stress from our lives and we can approach what we want to achieve in the following year with a greater freedom of mind. If you could, what would you be grateful for in the past 12 months?

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow” – Melody Beattie.

The power of gratitude is so strong that it removes and conquers the fear within us – this is, in fact, a scientific fact! That’s right, it has been scientifically proven that the human body and nervous system cannot feel gratitude and fear at the same time, imagine setting your goals, targets and intentions for the next year without fear to stop you.

New Years Resolutions or Intentions?

After doing a little research recently I’ve discovered that breaking New Years Resolutions has become a worldwide tradition! In the UK it is often a subject of humour of how quickly people break their New Years Resolutions. If I may suggest, don’t set resolutions….. set your intentions for 2018 and do it from a state of gratitude having discovered what you are grateful for from 2017.

Honesty in Gratitude…….

I have to be honest and say it has been a tough year, one of my best friends passed away suddenly in the middle of the year which really blew me away. Just a couple of days after his funeral we discovered that our dog had cancer! He survived for 6 weeks but eventually, the disease took it’s toll and then took his life. Without a doubt, this was one of the hardest times of my life.

The only thing that got me through both of these events (besides my wonderful wife!) was focussing on the gratitude I had for the time spent with both of them. I have some amazing memories of times with both of them and I will cherish those forever.

Other areas of Gratitude……

I consider myself fortunate that I can always find areas of my life to be grateful for and despite everything that has happened in 2017 there are still things to be grateful for. One of the biggest things to have come into my life in 2017 is the discovery of the Udemy website, a website committed to online learning through the medium of video-based courses.

Firstly I used this website to expand my own knowledge and grow as a person, now I have discovered that there is a massive opportunity to expand my reach as a coach. In September I started to record my own video-based training programmes and upload them to the Udemy site and I’m proud to say that I now have 4 courses fully approved and available.

If you’d like to expand your knowledge in 2018 I’d like to offer you the opportunity to do so for a limited time offer of each course for only £10……. click on the links below to take advantage.
